Angry, loud people.
I'm one of them, sometimes, especially when I get bad service or if Moobs doesn't manage to save me from a roach.
There are a lot of them now at Mr.Sia's site, giving him grief for the post he put up of an accident, which needless to say, has his usual flood of photos.
Many, like Moobs, find the post distasteful.
I would too, if not for the fact that I could not with certainty, say that I would not take photos and blog about them too.
After all, hit generating or not, it is quite interesting. What does an accident scene look like? What do people do?
I am sure many would say, without hesitation - "Not taking photos!". Fair enough. But in the spirit of my man Jesus, have you, during or after an accident (with dead people or not):
> slowed down your car to see what has transpired?
> tried to take note of the car plate number to buy lottery?
> if the accident is quite terrible - use it as a conversation piece (i.e. the most exciting bit of your day)?
> knowingly scrutinised accident pictures in the news/ blogs/ internet to detect the extent of gruesomeness/ tragicness?
Voluntary participation, in whatever form that benefits no one, is just as bad.
Let the person who has never done remotely similiar during such a situation (tragicness is not a factor), cast the first stone.
Be honest now. He knows.
:
girl i was just about to email you about this. i just think it was in incredibly poor taste. it's one thing to talk about it in an after-the-fact way but to say that just cos they were already dead and there was nothing he could have done to help, and to show pictures of a child's legs dangling out of the wreckage - i just think that is disgusting.
can you imagine? imagine that was someone close to you like a relative (CHOY) but imagine if it was and you happened to click over or be sent the link of that painful crash. there it is for the wrold to see. it's so insensitive.
sadly, i believe that whether consciously or unconsciously - this posting was not about the victims but rather about him. "i'm so sorry you're dead in a horrific accident but let me just get one more shot for my readers". absolutely poor form.
and the most stupid thing about car crashes is when other drivers slow down creating a bigger hazard for other commuters.
this is not, in my opinion, about voluntary participation but the fact that someone could actually be compelled enough to get out of his car and take pictures and post it online. who cares if the ambulance was already called and who cares if they were already dead. what compels a person and is this type of salacious tabloid reporting responsible? at the end of the day, it's a death. a private moment. can you imagine anyone taking pictures of the moment someone you love loses their life, for the benefit of a blog post? do you not have a right to be completely outraged?
leave the real reporting up to the journalists, i say.
the wrong he committed was probably not so much the fact that he reported it, but rather the method in which he chose to execute his 'story' and his hero defenses ("i called the ppl i did the most for them", etc).
the insincerity reeking from all the 'distraughtness' needs no elaboration either.
you're right, i can't imagine having someone taking photos of someone i love dying for the benefit of a blog post. i'd prolly have punched the person.
but what i think is that the backbenchers/ commentors should take a moment and think through what they're saying - some of which was plain name calling while others jumped on the flaming campaign. such an overwhelming wave of hypocrisy just because he's 'famous'. any other blogger and they wouldn't give a damn.
both sides need to say what they have thought out, rather than just saying.
there are so many bits of this matter i'm irked with, but i made myself step outside this agitation and asked myself the Jesus question - hence the post. not trying to be self-righteous or anything, just a passing Jesus thought. catholic *rolls eyes*
p/s the victims were my uncle's buddy's wife and kid.
that's awful. i wonder how they must feel.
i know people have jumped on him because he's kenny sia but for me, that is irrelevent. for me at least, my beef is - again what you said, the method in which he chose to report it and the graphicness of it all, especially what is considered to be a sensitive topic, for the benefit of a blog post. nothing really compels me to post a topic on a stranger's blog (celebrity or not) unless i am personally offended by what they say.
(come back and visit, i miss forms of intelligent life).
