Beauty Lies In Your Mind

Beauty lies in how you see things and what you want to see in them.

If you seek to see beauty in all, you can't help but do.

Some say this is denial.

It is not that the sceneries of other countries are better, or that they have prettier skies. It is not that their sun shines brighter, or the sea that reflects the moon deeper.

A person who wishes to remain oblivious, closes his eyes and sees darkness though it is daylight.

A person who wishes otherwise, sees wonder all around. Why, even ragged beggars on the streets are a work of art.

Someone's darling is always the most beautiful to that person because they see a distinct private 'quality' in them. This however does not make any other person's darling any less enchanting.

What lies before you is only beautiful because you believe it is.

Being fervently in denial is an essential element of being human. Besides, beauty is judged on a sliding scale. Attraction is more important, I say.

You write beautifully. =) Now now...no protests from you...cause I BELIEVE it.

It is true, seeing beauty is a choice, sometimes a hard choice...and I do try everyday. Even when there are scars, it's not so much denial if you can see the scars, it's just that to me, compared to the radiant beauty...it's so small that the beauty overpowers it. =)

Love the post.

derek.. i do suppose that if there wasn't initial attraction, there wouldn't be 'later' moments for whomever to appreciate whatever beauty.
now where did you go wrong? ^_^

mich... says you =P cause u choose to see it tht way! but i am in denial and i say it's not superficial and transient!
(whooopieeee, you're coming home! what a lot of ppl to see? there's only ME!)

I think is has to do with my overwhelming amount of cynicism. That or my amazing breasts.

addendum: but then again, like M&Ms, you can never have to much cynicism.

ah. beautifully written.

but first, i have to stress that our skies in this part of the world are a lot more beautiful. i was just commenting on how beautiful they were, and all we get over in the uk are grey skies, and even in summer, they aren't too pretty.

right, now that i've gotten that little rant outta my system, let me contribute my two cents. i suppose at times, we are too much moulded by society's definition of beauty that we fail to see the beauty of the litte things in life. after all, we are all created in God's image, and everyone of us is beautiful in his eyes. if someone as much as tells us we are not beautiful, they are but a mere ugly speck of dust in our beautiful lives. ;)

derek...well, i've a tendency to rebuke whatever someone else is saying, even if i agree with him or her. so thank u for being a cynic, so tht i can be..the opposite of tht whatever tht is.

rom..lain tempat lain cantik kua? but i DO agree on the 'being moulded by society' thing..never quite thought of it. thankkyouu for the insight, as always. (besides, it's always so much easier to put the blame on someone else eh?)

crispy.. my thoughts exactly but was trying not to use the words for fear of being too cliche. and YOU? Grappa?! image don't fit somehow.

not writing about work, cause it hasn't quite sunk into me yet. plus, i've not been doing much =)
