The Sitting By Myself At A Booth In A Shopping Complex During Christmas Experience

So I was sitting there with two long tables in front of me, laden with badly designed brochures and flyers.

In the background, Boney M's christmas album was repeating itself for the second time.

No one has stopped by for the last half an hour.

I closed my eyes, and saw mushrooms.

And that concludes the sitting by myself at a booth in a shopping complex during christmas experience.

Lets Play Pin The Movie Critic

So, I just watched the fourth Harry Potter movie last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it - if not for slight visual obstructions (the head of the guy in front was HUMONGOUS).

However, the reviews I read before and after the show have much negative things to impose on the public.

Movie critics annoy me.

Who made them the expert? I'm sure in God's BIG plan there was no special assignment for them. He didn't exactly write down in his For The Good Of All Mankind list:

[x] Movie critics - Crucial. Function: To assist mankind in picking the right movies.

I wish they would just chill a bit, enjoy the movie and stop bloody analysing everything.

If the movie's action packed - they say it lacks a storyline.
If the movie cut out some book sequences and focused - they say it's dissapointing that the 'other stuff' is left out.
If the movie has EVERYTHING - they say it's too draggy.
If the movie's too violent - they say it's inappropriate.
If the movie's too sweet - they say it's a chick flick.
Then there's the talk about the actors and actresses underacting and overacting.

The Malaysian Idol advert slogan stands true.

Everyone wants to be a critic.

Please lah. You so clever you go make, okay?

Brilliance, Through You.

A Return To Love
by Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.

It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

Kids say the darnest things.

My mom was trying on some hair accessories at home the other day, and asked my chubby eight-year-old brother Kevin for his opinion on which he thought to be prettier.

So he looked my mother up and down, frowned, and said to her in a most serious manner,

"You go change into nicer clothes first."

Amused, my mom obliged and changed into nicer clothes.

Apparently, Kevin needed to look at the overall effect the accessory had.

He's gonna be a great fashion designer one day.

Or just gay.
----------------
A Melanau (an ethnic group in Sarawak) cousin of mine whose husband is Malay, has five absolutely GORGEOUS kids that look like toddler versions of Arab models (hubba hubba).

The whole family had just recently uprooted themselves from their comfy home in Kuching, to seek greener pastures in Kuala Lumpur.

Now my cousin is a helplessly absent-minded mother, and has lost her youngest son at the supermarket several times in the past two months. KL supermarkets are very, very big.

The first time the four-year-old got lost, he was so terrified that he chewed his lower lip til it bled.

But after several similar occurences he realised that it was really no big deal and cheerfully got lost every single shopping trip, causing his mother much stress and panic.

On one such occasion when he had just been retrieved from the Lost & Found counter, he gleefully told his mother of his adventures before she came to claim him.

"They sayang (to pet/ a loving gesture) my head. They say that I am a handsome boy. They say that I am a good boy."

Man. Talk about vanity at a young age.

Stille Nacht, Heillige Nacht!

Yahoo! Music is honestly the best thing that happened to me since I started working.

I just heard the German version of Silent Night.

I feel so cultured right now.

As you can see (from the previous post), I was pretty down. I don't exactly envision myself running slow-mo towards my office, embracing its walls, kissing its blue tiled floors, beholding the doorway in a trance as if it was Bayu Timur at SS2.

But (looks at watch) after 2 hours of christmas tunes over Yahoo! Music's traditional christmas radio station, I guess I could play pretend.

Ooo! Now it's The Beach Boy's Little Saint Nick!

*lovesigh*

Just go here, spot Traditional Christmas, click Listen Now and enter your Yahoo! username and password(I think you can use your email account, or any Yahoo! account).

Abandon Ship!

My arch nemesis has resigned from her job as of last Friday.

It was a very abrupt event. She told me about it Thursday morning, handed in her letter Thursday afternoon, and that was that.

The office feels empty without her annoying the heck out of me.

----------
My application for the new job has been received by the other party. I've been asked to make an appointment for an interview in the coming month.
Head ache. Headache.

Difficulties:
1. Lack of weekends
Will have events every weekend until end of December so I shall have to figure something out

2. Lack of money
There's christmas, there's setting up house in Smog City and there's flying back and forth from KL (air fare damn expensive okay and my pay damn low)

3. Lack of luck
Arch nemesis a.k.a. devil woman's abrupt resignation has made it VERY difficult for me to leave the company.

4. Lack of strength
Just tired.
Sigh.
I need a little lovin'.

Keem Standard Time (As opposed to GMT)

Time-keeping is a non-Malaysian practice.

I believe that when babies are born, after the initial butt-slapping procedure and they dissapear into a strange room, doctors and nurses repeat this to them:

"You are 30 minutes late."

And so, all Malaysian babies grow up to be always 30 minutes late.

Some take it even further, like my would've been employer who showed up 1 1/2 hour late.

Then there was my recent appointment with a certain telecommunication company's manager, whom I waited for half an hour - and then I stomped off.

And my bosses' idea of being punctual would be leaving promptly at the hour when the meeting etc is supposed to take place (hence being 20 minutes late because of traffic).

And so, I have taken matters into my own hands.

When you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!

So, I changed the time of my office clock. It is now 15 minutes faster.

Benefits: Finish work earlier, leave for appointments on time, and inner giggle every time I walk past the clock.

I feel absolutely DEVILISH.

Note To Self

Application letter should include:
  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Articles
  • CD containing adverts and webpage project
  • Press releases done for current company
  • Documents: Certificate, transcript, I.C, passport-sized photo.

This REALLY is a note to self, cause I'm in the office and need to go through the checklist again later when I'm home.

Tell me if I've left out anything, or if I should include other stuff along with my application.

Clumsiness Caused Calamity (CCC)

It was a normal day at work full of internet surfing, and internet surfing.

The hands of the clock seemed to be trying to stall time, clinging on to the numbers, delaying my lunch hour.

My stomach rumbled. I frowned in worry that someone might've heard it.

I looked around. No one had.

And then the delightful Godsent melody I heard, resonating from my desk drawer - my handphone ringtone.

It was my colleague a.k.a. neighbour calling to tell me that we were going out for lunch.

Without a blink (well, maybe just one), I rushed down the two flights of stairs to get to the car park.

And that, is when the CCC happened.

I slipped down four steps, twisted my arm when trying to stop myself from falling, and broke my heels.

Thank goodness for the EmergencyManMoob who picked me up and brought me to the nearest shopping place, where I limped around while looking for a new pair of shoes.

So exciting, no?
